The TZTM M’Hamid is the flagship event of the Belgian non-profit association Run To Start. Since 2016, this trail has taken place each year in the Moroccan desert, with a mission that goes far beyond sport.

All profits from the event are donated to our local partner, APCIZ, an association based in Zagora that supports children living with physical and mental disabilities. APCIZ runs a dedicated center that now welcomes nearly 100 children, offering specialized education, therapy, family support, and adapted transportation.

Through TZTM, we help fund the daily operations of the center, strengthen their local initiatives, and raise awareness among an international community of runners and walkers.

In addition to the trail in Morocco, Run To Start has also organized other fundraising events in Belgium, such as the Kasterlee Trail, always with the goal of combining sport, inclusion, and solidarity.

Joining TZTM means contributing directly to a long-term impact on the ground, and making every step count.
Thanks to these events but also to other fundraising organized throughout the year the association was able to expand and set up various projects with our local partner, the Moroccan association APCIZ in Zagora, the place where the first editions of the TZTM was held.

APCIZ CENTER

During one of our early visits to Zagora, we had the chance to meet part of the team behind APCIZ, a local association supporting children with disabilities. What began as a dedicated class for children with Down Syndrome at the Cherif Alaoui school has since grown into a fully functioning center for children with physical and mental disabilities.

Today, this center welcomes nearly 100 children, offering them tailored support: educational programs, therapy, specialized transport, and parental guidance. The work done by APCIZ is both essential and deeply rooted in the local community.

Each year, the team at APCIZ shares with us the most urgent needs and new project ideas. Based on the funds raised through TZTM and other initiatives, we decide together which actions we can support, whether that’s helping cover transport costs, funding equipment, or supporting staff training.

Our goal isn’t to lead, it’s to listen, empower, and support a local structure that’s making a real, lasting difference

Boutyouss region

In this southern region of Morocco, at the border of the Sahara, the most cultivated fruit is the watermelon. This fruit is ideal for local farmers, as it does not need much care, nor material to grow. What it does need, however, is water, and this resource is becoming increasingly scarce in this region.

During talks with the Boutyouss locals we got to learn about their agriculture and got to discuss the solution to the water consumption: palm trees.

Boutyouss school

The past years gave us the opportunity to visit the Zagora region, which is located in the south of Morocco.

The several trips to the region were meant to meet the kids, the teacher, the parents, but also the local authorities to establish a dialogue and an exchange. Scholarship in the Boutyouss school is one of the main problems that came up during these exchanges.

For a number of years, we have been able to set up various projects. Today, we’ve decided to focus on our partnership with the Moroccan association APCIZ, which takes care of mentally and physically handicapped children living in Zagora.
